Have a 1998 Neon with a stumble. It seems transmission related, as it runs strong, but stiff shifts up/down.?

It's an automatic, the engine runs strong, it seems, but there is a stumble on acceleration, and it holds the gears very long before it thumps into the next one, and downshifts are failry harsh. Would this be something that can be picked up through OBD, as the check engine light is on.
